Lorena Wiebes wins stage 2 of the Tour of Chongming Island, Gillespie beaten in the sprint

Lorena Wiebes (Team SD Worx-Protime) won the second stage of the Tour of Chongming Island, covering the route in 3:10:10. The rider of the Dutch team beat Lara Gillespie (UAE Team L'Imad) and Maggie Coles-Lyster (Human Powered Health) in the sprint, both credited with the same time as the winner. The race Despite the flat profile, the stage was animated by numerous attack attempts in the last 50 kilometres, with the teams intent on avoiding another bunch sprint. A sizeable group managed to gain a margin 30 kilometres from the finish, but the peloton managed to close the gap 15 kilometres from the line, bringing the race back together and setting up the final sprint. On the finishing straight Wiebes had to find the space to come out of the group and sprinted side by side with Gillespie, who held her speed to the line, finishing in second place.
